Monday Motivation: January #3

Hey guys! I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was cut short but it was still nice and relaxing. I spent a lot of time with my family and although they can be the largest source of stress in my life, they somehow still keep me grounded and I guess that's what's most important.

Anyway! My sister got me into reading Demi Lovato's book, 'Staying Strong' and today, I wanted to share something from there with you guys! I think it's something we often forget and we need to be reminded about it.

January 17

"Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent." - ELEANOR ROOSEVELT

There are people in this life who will take advantage of you and tell you who they think you are. It's up to you what you do with that information. The moment you let people make decisions on your behalf you have given up your dignity. But you can always get it back as long as you remember to connect with your higher power.

Goal: Don't let anyone take advantage or manipulate you. Remind yourself that you're entitled to the life and love you deserve.

I hope this spoke to some of you guys! Don't ever let what anyone else tell you, define you. Remember, it's only you who can make that decision! Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Kisses,

S

TAG: The Most...I've Ever Been

Hey guys!! Welcome to day 1 of my birthday week! If you're confused as to what I'm talking about, allow me to explain. Since January is my birth month, I decided to bring the celebration to my blog and I'm going to be posting every day this week until my birthday! I'm going to be doing something a little different and posting more personal posts so you guys can get to know me a little bit better! :)

A few weeks ago, I watched THIS video and I loved the idea of this tag so much, I decided it would be fun to kick off my birthday week with it! Basically, there's a list of emotions stated and all you have to do is talk about the time that you've been most "..."

♥ Scared

Okay, here's a fact about me. I get scared so easily, it's not even funny anymore. For example, today I was having lunch with my mom and she goes “You know, sometimes I think we're not alone in this house, I feel there's something else.” I legit freaked out even though this happened during broad daylight and I forced my mom to literally stay beside me until I left the house. I haven't gone home yet but let's not talk about that right now okay. So anyway, for the most scared I've ever been, I would say it would be the time I had to walk through the Mummy Returns attraction at Universal Studios! I was around 12 at the time and I honestly felt like my heart was literal steps away from pumping out of my chest! I knew no one could possibly hurt me but I don't know, it was the most terrifying thing!!

♥ Happy

This was quite hard to narrow down but I would say the happiest I've been was when my Nursing Licensure Exam results came out and I found out that I made it. It was such a surreal feeling! I remember that I couldn't stop crying and I think it was at that point where I really understood what ‘tears of joy’ really meant.

♥ Sad

On the contrary, the saddest I've ever felt was when my grandfathers (both from my mom and dad's side) passed away. Since we lived far away from them, we weren't very close but the thing that saddened me the most was seeing my parents sad. Death is a very difficult thing to accept and it's quite rare to see people who you feel are invincible, break down their walls and show their vulnerability.

♥ Proud

Two things come into my mind when I think about the time when I've felt most proud about myself. The first one would be my college graduation. I went to college in another country and I couldn't speak the language at the time. It was very challenging and the fact that I was able to graduate my major really made me proud! My second most proud memory would have to be the time when I built my own piece of furniture from Ikea! ;)

♥ Passionate

Wow, I'm not going to lie about this one but the most passionate I've ever been was when I was around 13. I was pretty much obsessed with a band called ‘Busted’ and I collected every single thing that had to do with them. I literally spent all my free time and money on them and if that's not passion, I don't know what is! :P

♥ Sick

I'm not really the kind of person that gets sick easily but one time when I was in grade school, I was hospitalized for having bronchopneumonia and it was a terrible time. I missed about 2 weeks of school and during that time, I LOVED school (I know – who am I, right?!) so I was devastated! It was difficult to breathe without coughing and coughing alone was so painful! Thank God, it's over!

♥ Tired

This is easy because I'm a pretty lazy person and I always feel tired. I guess the most tired I've ever felt was during my senior year of college. I took up Nursing as my major and I would say the most difficult year was the last one! We had to finish up a total of 25 cases while still juggling paper work and case presentations and ugh it was really stressful! Getting even an hour of sleep was considered a luxury at the time!!

♥ Angry

I am not one to get angered easily so I can't say that there's a time I've felt SO angry BUT I do lose it sometimes if someone tries to hurt people I care about! That's just what tips me off.

♥ Excited

Well, I guess the most excited I've ever been is right now. Life, although challenging, is always surprising me with things and not knowing what's ahead of me is an exciting thing in itself, I mean, for me at least.

If you're reading until here, I TAG YOU and if you do decide to do this tag, please leave the link to your post in the comments below so I can check it out! :)

Kisses,

S

Monday Motivation: January #2

Happy Monday, guys! Before I start off today’s post, I have an exciting announcement! Starting on the 18th of this Month, I’m going to be posting every day until the 24th. It’s just a small way of celebrating my birthday week by giving you guys more posts that are a little bit more personal! I’m super excited about it and I hope you are as well!

Anyway! For this week’s Monday post, I’m going to be sharing a post from Tumblr that I came across during the weekend. It’s entitled '20 Things You Should Know Before You Turn 20'. Well, I’m 22 now and I only wish someone showed me this earlier!

1. Appreciate your dad; you don’t know what will happen.

2. If you don’t want to wear make up, don’t. For Christ sakes, you’re young and beautiful. Society can go fuck their self.

3. It’s really okay to love yourself. Appreciate the funny curve of your nose, and that gap in your teeth make your smile prettier. Just because you don’t look like that girl in the magazine doesn’t mean you can’t tell yourself you’re beautiful every now and then.

4. Do what makes you happy. I know you’ve heard this a million times, but I can’t stress this enough. Go after your dream job even if it goes against every thing your parents wanted. If you don’t like where you live, move. Your friends don’t make you laugh until your sides hurt? You don’t have to be friends with them anymore. You’re in control. No one else. Don’t fall under the pressure of pleasing people. Please yourself and live for you.

5. Love who you want. Regardless of gender, skin color, or societal views. Please never give up true love because you’re scared. Love is a beautiful, beautiful thing, and if you’re lucky enough to come across it don’t you dare walk away from it because of what others will think. Take the looks, the whispers, and the criticism with a smile, grab your lovers hand, and if you’re feeling extra happy, kiss them for the world to see. Let me tell you, the world is only jealous because they simply can’t understand.

6. Take long showers and lay on your bed naked after, sing too loud, sleep through your classes one day, and another day just don’t leave the couch. It’s okay to just decide you don’t have responsibilities for a little bit. Everyone needs a day ever so often to just relax. It’s okay to be lazy. It’s okay to sleep for 12 hours straight. It’s okay to go to bed at 6 AM because you’re reading and wake up at 3 the next day. Treat yourself, but most importantly love yourself enough to give yourself time to breathe.

7. Alone time is good for the soul. I truly believe that. I think it’s good to cancel your plans sometimes, close your door, turn off your phone, and play some John Mayer (or whatever your prefer). Maybe you could read a book, or hell even write one if you’re up for it. But take some time to yourself and learn to be happy with just you and the sound of your breathing. At the end of the day, you are the only person that is guaranteed to stick around, so you might as well learn to enjoy the way laugh at your own jokes or the way you pronounce words when you read aloud. Being comfortable alone is more important than you know.

8. It’s okay to be 20 and still love Disney movies. It’s not even a guilty pleasure. Everyone has their favorite whether they admit it or not.

9. Do not compromise who you are to impress someone else. You are a wonderfully constructed individual. Your trials, experiences, and life all together have sculpted you into the most lovely version of you possible. If a person doesn’t like the way you live, from your sex life to your music taste, who cares? You were not put on this earth to impress them, or anyone for that matter. Impress yourself. Stick to what you want, stand up for what you believe, and tell people to screw off if they have an issue with any of it. It’s your life.

10. High school does not in any manner prepare you for college. One time my teacher dismissed class early because a kid fell down the stairs and he was laughing too hard to continue the lecture. That’s all I have to say about that subject.

11. I know you’re making a ton of new friends at this stage in your life, but don’t forget whose been there from the start. Your new friends may be exciting and wonderful and the best friends you could imagine but the ones that knew you back in middle school and were still there for you are genuine. If they loved your through your awkward phase, they’re probably in it for the long run. So send some love their way ever so often. When you’re older, you’ll be glad you did.

12. Your mom will probably cry a lot during the next few years. Let her. Hug her. Cry with her. She just wants you happy at the end of the day. You’re growing up, and life’s exciting, but you have to remember that you’re her baby, and the more you find yourself, the more she feels she’s losing you. I know you’re getting older, but so is she. Spend Sunday afternoons telling her about your life or reading her your new poetry. She’ll appreciate that so much, and you will too later on.

13. It’s okay to get drunk. Whether it be just for fun or that you need liquid courage to text an ex, it’s completely fine. And you know what else is completely fine? Not getting drunk. It’s okay to be the mom, the DD, or to not even show up to the party at all. It’s all okay. But you know what isn’t? Judging whatever decisions your peers make. So what there was a photo posted and that girl you went to high school with was wasted? It’s not really any of your business is it. And if that guy decided to go to that poetry reading and skipped the biggest party of the year, It’s really not affecting you at all, so don’t act like it does.

14. Stop glamorizing sadness. Sadness is not beautiful. It does not glow. Disorders are not something to make light of, and scars are not something to be ignored. Be proud of who you are. Eat that hamburger, and put the razor down. And most importantly, smile. Happiness is by far the most beautiful thing about a person.

15. It will all be okay at the end of the day. Life has a funny way of working out.

16. Speaking of funny, life literally never goes as planned. Don’t waste your time fretting over the future. Faith and destiny work hand in hand to make sure life keeps you on your toes.

17. Karma is a real and powerful thing. Please try to keep it on your side. Your bad deeds catch up with you in a big way. Take your time to build up your good karma, and do some good for other people, even if the deeds are small. Put a quarter in an expired parking meter, serve food at a homeless shelter, or go visit an elderly person at the nursing homes. Good deeds are good for others, and good for your soul.

18. You can never go wrong with pizza.

19. Don’t wish your years away. I know you’re at that age where you’re responsible for your choices, but aren’t really considered an adult but you’ll want these years back. Being young is the most fantastic, exciting adventure you will ever endure. And when you get older you’ll wish for these years back, even all the bad days that came along with it. So enjoy your youth, relish in it. Because you will never be younger than you are right this second.

20. And lastly, if you ever feel unloved and worthless, just know I love you and find the upmost worth in you. You’re destined for big things, now go get them.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!

Kisses,

S

What I Loved in December!

While 2013 proved to be a whirlwind of emotions, the month of December, fairly enough, held up to be quite a stable one. It was one of the few months this past year that didn't just breeze by me. I was able to appreciate the days it held and within those days, I fell in love with a lot (and I really do mean a LOT) of things and that's what I'm going to be sharing with you guys today! This might be a wee bit of a long post so brace yourselves!

VLOGMAS & BLOGMAS

I followed a ton of people's activities this month and it was surprisingly very entertaining for me! If you don't already know what vlogmas or blogmas is, it's basically people vlogging/blogging every single day until Christmas day. I don't know, it was really fun to keep up with other people! I'll link the people I kept up with below.

For Vlogmas:

For Blogmas:

Books

Earlier this month, I pulled out my Kokology book that I used to love playing with and started to use it again! It's a really fun way (in my opinion!) to get to know people's personalities through simple questions that you can ask them! I definitely recommend checking it out if you can!

The second book I enjoyed reading this month is Looking for Alaska by John Green. I actually just finished it this past week and wow, beautiful is an understatement. In true John Green fashion, the ending may not appeal to a lot of people but it worked for me. It's a really captivating story that will definitely make you laugh and maybe possibly, tear up a little! It also made me a little bit angry at one point but nevertheless, I really enjoyed this book! I would say it's a little similar to The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold so if you enjoyed that one, this one will be right up your alley!

Music

It was a good month for music in December. Naturally, I listened to a lot of Christmas music but aside from that I discovered a new song by Amanda Seyfried called 'Little House'. Have I been living under a rock all this time and not known that Amanda could sing!? Her voice is hauntingly beautiful and I’m literally obsessed with this song!

Also, We the Kings dropped their newest album 'Somewhere Somehow' earlier this month and I've really been enjoying it a lot! I've been a fan of their music for years now and this album didn't disappoint. Some of my favorite tracks include 'Sad Song', 'See You In My Dreams' and 'That Feeling'.

Pinterest

Pinterest is like a little Pringle crisp in a way that you can't just look at one picture and leave. Safe to say, I've been spending a ton of my time this past month on there! I have the app on my phone and it's super easy to use (hence why).  If you're still not familiar with what Pinterest is, it's like your very own cork board that you can use to pin anything from the Internet. You can also browse other people's boards and easily re-pin anything you like from there.

Hot chocolate + marshmallows

I don't even need to elaborate any further, do I? ;)

Products

I didn't even realize how many things I've found myself enjoying this past month until I put together this post! So please just bear with me guys, okay? :)

I'm not entirely sure why, but I've been breaking out a lot lately and these three products have really helped calm my skin. I use the St. Ives Green Tea Scrub and the Lush Tea Tree Water every day and the mint mask twice a week (sometimes more, it depends on my mood!).

As for lip products, I think I used these two pretty much every day! When I wanted something a little darker, I would go with 'Berry Ready' which is a beautiful raspberry color from Maybelline's Color Whisper line. I love the formula of these lipsticks! They remind me of Revlon's Lip Butters except these are more moisturizing. Speaking of lip butters, I've also been loving 'Pink Truffle' from Revlon. It's sort of a pink/muted brown color that I think goes with everything!

Something I also enjoyed doing this past month was filling in my eyebrows! I use Milani's Brow Kit in 'Dark' and I love it because it blends in perfectly with my hair color and looks very natural.

I've also been trying a new mascara that's outside of my comfort zone! Yes, I have a comfort zone for mascaras if you're wondering and they solely revolve around Maybelline. However, I've started using L'OrĂ©al's Lash Out Butterfly Mascara and it turned me around! The formula and brush are both incredible and they leave my lashes looking so full and long! If you're looking for a new mascara to try out, I'll recommend checking this one out!

The next three things I want to talk about have all found a special place in my heart! First off, can we talk about the Merry Cookie candle from BBW!? It smells just like the name and whenever I light it up, it makes my room smell like a bakery! I love it.

I was walking around H&M one day, and I saw this cat phone case and you all know how I am with cats so of course I picked it up BUT wait because this one actually is holographic!! I know right - what!!!?

Finally, the last thing I have to show you guys is very special to me because it's actually from one of my patients from work. She got me a little souvenir from her trip to Paris! Honestly, I freaked out a little (okay maybe a lot) because I'm obsessed with the idea of Paris and I've always dreamed of visiting one day. So, the fact that she remembered me while she was there really means a lot to me!

Well, this brings us to the end of today's post. I hope it wasn't a drag to read! I just had a lot of stuff I wanted to talk about and hopefully you found it somehow interesting! December was overall a great end to my 2013 and I'm looking forward to what the new year will bring ahead. How was your December? What was your favorite thing/memory about it? Leave it in the comments below and I'll be glad to read it!

Kisses,

S

Monday Motivation: January #1

Hey guys!! Sheesh, I know, I know, I’ve been slacking and I haven’t put up a blog post since last year! Hah, excuse my weak attempt at cracking a joke but how is everyone enjoying the new year!? I hope it’s  fab! Unsurprisingly though, life is still trying to test me and this past week has been quite the challenge. You know what though, January has always been my favorite month (I might be a little biased because it’s my birth month! :P) and I’m not going to let anyone or anything change that! I know that it’s Tuesday and this post was supposed to go up yesterday but mmm better late than never, right? ;)

For today’s post, I’d like to talk about a personal experience. Lately, I had an accident at work and it terrified me. Mainly because I knew that what I did would pose a great inconvenience to a lot of people. A lot of things started running through my head. I couldn’t sleep that night thinking about the consequences of my actions and you know the thing that surprised me most was what? That it was exactly that – in my head. When I walked into work the following day, the Gods worked in my favor and everything sorted itself out. No one was greatly affected, at least not as much as I thought they would be. In the end, I was getting so worked up over something that seemed so bad only inside my head. A friend shared this quote with me the other day and it honestly couldn’t have been more appropriate to my situation at the time!

“Tell the negative committee that meets inside your head to sit down and shut up.” – Ann Bradford

Today, if you’re feeling terrible over something that happened, just drop your worries because it probably isn’t as bad as you perceive it to be! Take it from me and save all that energy you’re wasting on worry and use it elsewhere!

Happy Monday (come on, it HAS to be Monday somewhere in the world!) and I wish you all a great week ahead!

Kisses,

S
